joy to the world

So I'm working on building a stash of Christmas cards for my MIL and here's one of cards I was able to make -- a simple one layer card with one of the traditional Christmas colors. I stamped the sentiment in the center and then stamped the beautiful layered poinsettias on opposite corners and then finished the card by stamping the borders. This card was quick and easy to make!

Paper craft project no: 394: Have a very merry Christmas one layer card

We're starting a new challenge at the One Layer Christmas Card Challenge. It's always anything goes one layer Christmas cards but for the next two weeks, the optional twist is "reindeer".

I skipped the twist. I went monochromatic by using different green inks (Memento). Stamped the numbers background first, then the pine boughs in varying shades of green ink, and then the script background. I stamped the sentiment in black and finished the card by rounding one corner.

Check out what the rest of the design team created and then hopefully you'll join us and link up your one layer Christmas cards :o)

Paper craft project no. 389: A trio of one layer Christmas cards

Excited to share that this week over at STAMPlorations, we're releasing a Christmas set I illustrated called Holiday Expressions: Yuletide Cheer. And we're celebrating with a mini hop too! If you hop on over the blog and leave a comment on the special stamp release post and on the participating designers blogs, you can be the lucky winner of the set :o)

Below is a preview of the stamp set. It's also now available in the shop and until October 7, it's 10% off.

I kept my one layer cards featuring this set pretty simple. With time being a precious commodity for me (my sweet baby Kathryn takes up 99.99% of my time these days), I stuck to plain stamping, masking, and coloring using my Japanese watercolor brush pens. These one layer cards were quick to make, which is another good thing since I can easily mass produce these cards :o)

Check out what DeeptiLee-Anne, and Tenia created using the Yuletide Cheer set -- leave a comment here, on their blogs, and on the STAMPlorations blog by Friday and you could be the winner of this set :o)

Paper craft project no. 318: Fa la la la la la la la la one layer card

Over at Time Out Challenges, we're doing the Inspired by Words challenge for the next two weeks. This time around, it's "Christmas is Love with All the Trimmings." The challenge is pretty easy: create a project inspired by that line. Take a word or two or a few, and then create! Done making Christmas cards for the year? You can just go with "love" and create a Valentine's day card. Really, it's up to you how you'll be inspired by the phrase. We have one of my absolute favorite cardmakers, Shirley of shirley-bee's stamping stuff, guest designing with us! I hope you can stop by the blog, check out the awesome cards my teammates made, and play along!

To make my card, I inked up my brush stroke stamp and stamped the widest part of the tree. For the next one, I covered both sides with post-it notes before stamping again, and then I repeated that until I got to the top part of the tree. I inked the same stamp with brown ink to create the trunk. For my "star", I took mustard seed Distress paint and simply made a big dot then dragged a palette knife to create the "rays". I stamped the sentiment in black ink. I spattered a bit of fired brick Distress ink to finish the card. This was an easy, quick, and fun one layer card to make!

Linking up my card to these fun challenges:
  1. Addicted to Stamps & More #126 - Anything Goes with an Optional Twist (I skipped the twist, but I'm hoping I can get another card in with it before the challenge closes!)
  2. CASology #126 - Snow (the white areas on my brush stroke Christmas tree look like snow)
  3. Deep Ocean Challenge #93 - Christmas is all around
  4. Tuesday Throwdown #225 - Christmas
  5. Cards in Envy - Christmas Carols (mine's Deck the Halls -- I bet you won't be able to look at my card without singing the fa-la-la -- and yes, I stamped the right number of "la-la" in there LOL!)
  6. Simon Says Wednesday - Winter Inspiration (I went with the snowy forest in the top left)
